Tune into any presidential debate during this primary season, and you are sure to encounter a great deal of discussion regarding sluggish growth in the economy, the health of American industry, and economic competitiveness. You are also likely to hear substantial dialogue surrounding tax rates, the federal deficit, and the level of government spending. All of the aforementioned topics receive large amounts of attention because they are looming concerns and challenges for American voters and the policy makers they elect through the democratic process. Yet, there is another implicit reason why these challenges continue to receive media coverage: no one has devised a solution!
Given the structure of our political system, and the influence of legislation on economic productivity, there can be no solution proposed that does not address the intrinsic relationship between the public and private sectors in a post-New Deal world. Aware of this truism, Erol Tucker and Anthony Orlando founded the Wharton Politics & Business Association to educate and to further dialogue on pressing business and political issues of the current times. This Tumblr, The Political Economy, is an extension of that mission; a place where we can provide our own words and share in the discussion with others far and wide. It is our desire that you decide to join the talk as well!
